Young players will investigate how Shakespeare guides actors through text and will exercise the actor's toolkit to explore multiple characters in an ensemble performance. Under the guidance of theater professionals from the Shakespeare Theatre Company (STC), participants unravel his plays with text analysis; transform into Shakespeare’s characters through voice, movement and improvisation work; wage battles against mortal enemies with stage combat; and develop fundamental acting skills using classical theater techniques. To culminate the session, participants stage a performance for friends and family in the Alden Theatre.
This year, Camp Shakespeare will explore “Julius Caesar,” a story of political upheaval and betrayal leading to the death of Rome’s leader at the hands of his closest allies.
Full tuition is due upon registration. STC is unable to refund missed class time or individual days of camp, but if you need to withdraw your registration for any reason, the following options are available to you:
• You may donate your tuition to STC as a tax-deductible charitable contribution. This will help STC survive the coronavirus pandemic, allowing it to provide meaningful education programs like Camp Shakespeare for many years to come.
• You may keep a credit in the amount you paid to register for Camp Shakespeare 2022. This credit would remain on your account until you contact STC to register for next summer.
• You may request a full or partial refund to the credit card used at registration.
