4/8/20 COVID-19 Response Update
McLean Community Center is suspending registrations until further notice. MCC is currently accessing its ability to accommodate summer programs, which involves the hiring of staff, the availability and use of community-based facilities and making reservations at various venues. As soon as decisions have been made, we will inform our patrons. For now, we remain closed to the public and are adhering to the CDC guidelines of restricting group gatherings to less than 10 people.

A Resource for the McLean Community
Want to help others or need help yourself? The Fairfax County Community Covid Aid Project is a charity started at McLean High School to connect volunteers with those in need in our community during this difficult time. The organization runs a database where McLean residents can access services, like grocery shopping and online tutoring, by requesting help from a group of dedicated volunteers. All volunteers are Fairfax County residents, who have signed up through the website, https://www.fairfaxcountycovidaid.org.

Under the guidance of theater professionals, participants stage a performance of a Shakespeare play.

At Camp Shakespeare, young actors dive into the world of the greatest playwright in history: William Shakespeare. Under the guidance of theater professionals from the acclaimed, Washington, D.C.-based Shakespeare Theatre Company, participants unravel his plays with text analysis; transform into Shakespeare’s characters through voice, movement and improvisation work; wage battles against mortal enemies with stage combat; and develop fundamental acting skills using classical theater techniques. To culminate the session, participants stage a performance for friends and family in the Alden Theatre of the McLean Community Center.

This summer, Camp Shakespeare at the McLean Community Center will explore “Macbeth,” where witches’ prophecies lead to endless tragedy for Macbeth, Lady Macbeth and all who disrupt their ambitions to be King and Queen of Scotland.

For any young artist with the desire to learn classical drawing. No previous experience is necessary.

This in-demand workshop will introduce the young artist to a classical atelier program of instruction. Students will learn to draw through direct observation of and critique by master instructor, Kerry Vosler.

Students will draw a series of pictures in charcoal throughout the week, including work from the late 19th century Bargue-Ger6me Drawing Course, culminating in a session with a live model on Friday afternoon. Students will have at least two finished portfolio drawings by the end of the week. Parents and families are encouraged to attend the closing certificate ceremony on Friday.
