Acclaimed poet Nikki Giovanni shares her eloquent words of wisdom, spanning the civil rights movement, politics, love, art and more. Discussing the ideals of equality in her dramatic oratory, she shares the experiences and thoughtful poetry that embody her activism and legacy of passion for the arts. Running time: 60 minutes, followed by a book signing.

Jazz pianist, musicologist and humorist John Eaton brings his popular continuing education program to the Alden. Jazz Masters with John Eaton is an entertaining and insightful afternoon that combines Eaton’s peerless knowledge of the Great American Songbook, hilarious commentary and elegant, ultra-tasteful renditions of Cole Porter’s work.

For ages 14 and older. Technical training introduces students to many aspects of technical production, including safety issues, and is designed to assist local arts organizations with their productions. Volunteers who work in The Alden in a technical capacity are required to complete this training course, but these classes are open to anyone older than 14 years old. Participants may sign up for one or all sessions. Please wear comfortable clothes that do not restrict movement and closed-toe shoes with laces or Velcro, or loafers.

 

Please note: Participants age 16 or younger must have a parent or guardian present at the first session to sign a waiver before they can participate.

 

Instructor: Theatre Staff.
