The James C. Macdonald Performing Arts Scholarship Competition

The 2021 Macdonald Performing Arts Scholarship Competition has been canceled due to the Covid-19 restrictions. This program will return when it is safe to do so. Application information will be posted here when it is available.

About the scholarship

Annually, the McLean Community Center recognizes the hard work and talent of young performing artists through the James C. Macdonald Performing Arts Scholarship Competition. Following a preliminary round and final round of competition, prizes (1st - $1,200; 2nd - $800, and 3rd - $400) are awarded in each of four categories: dance, theater, instrumental music and vocal music. In 2020, the 1st place Instrumental Award was named in honor of Anita Lamkin, a longtime friend of young musicians and supporter of music performances in McLean.

Who can apply: High school students who reside or attend school in the MCC tax district (Small District One A-Dranesville) are eligible to apply.

  • Students may enter in more than one category, but must submit an application form for each.
