Old Firehouse 2022 Summer Camp Trips

For Rising 5th-9th Graders

With the end of the school year quickly approaching, there’s no need to worry about keeping your child active and happy this summer. The Old Firehouse’s Summer Camp has you covered with eight weeks of fantastic trips and memorable experiences. Be sure to sign up early as these weeks sell out fast. 

 

For your convenience, there are three ways you can register:online, by phone or at the Old Firehouse.

  

Old Firehouse Summer Camp participant contracts should be submitted no later than Friday, June 3, 2022. All other forms and waivers will be sent to parents via email and will also be available at the Old Firehouse prior to the start of camp.

 

Camp will be held Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.-6 p.m.  On certain trips, the return time will be later due to the trip location. Trips depart and return to the Old Firehouse Teen Center, 1440 Chain Bridge Rd., McLean, Va., 22101. Campers may want to bring additional money each day for snacks and incidentals.

 

Please Note: Trips may change due to weather conditions, location availability or other unforeseeable issues. The Old Firehouse will make every effort to ensure replacement trips are as similar as possible to the trip originally planned.

Old Firehouse Summer Camp Refund Policy

  • All withdrawals, refunds and cancellation requests MUST be submitted in writing to oldfirehouse@mcleancenter.org.
  • The center will issue a full refund when a camp program is canceled by the center.
  • Requests for withdrawals and/or cancellations received before Friday, April 1, 2022, will receive a full refund.
  • For requests for withdrawals and/or cancellations received after Friday, April 1, 2022, patrons will be charged a $100 processing fee, which will be deducted from the total amount paid. 
  • If a replacement can be found to fill the space vacated by the cancellation and/or withdrawal, the $100 processing fee will be refunded to the patron.
  • If a replacement cannot be found, a refund of the processing fee will not be issued.

 Chess

Chess CampSilver Knights Enrichment has taught chess to 100,000+ children including national champions! A great camp for everyone from brand new beginners to tournament players. Activities include learning the rules, openings, tactics, strategy, endgames, playing games and taking outdoor breaks. Bring a snack, drink and lunch. Campers will receive a t-shirt and chess set. Broadway Bound Camp

Fencing: Intro to Olympic Sport - Foil, Sabre and Epee
No previous training needed. Known as the "physical game of chess," olympic sport fencing provides a tremendous physical and mental workout for students of all ages and athletic abilities. Fencing makes fitness fun! It builds muscle strength, provides greater cardiovascular workouts and improves endurance, coordination and speed. Campers will learn footwork, handwork and strategy using safety-tipped swords, protective jackets, masks and gloves. Instructor: Virginia Academy of Fencing.

Eureka! The Inventor’s Camp
Children will overcome a series of challenges using basic materials, simple machines, tips from famous inventors and, most important of all, their minds. Under the Big Top!

McLean Community Center’s dynamic Camp McLean program provides a wide array of new experiences and fun times for children. Children ages 3 to 10 can enjoy trips and performances and explore the world of fitness and artistic creativity and so much more! During each two-week session, our staff of highly trained counselors and specialists will lead campers on some unforgettable adventures and provide enrichment opportunities including arts and crafts, music and all sorts of outdoor summer fun!


The camp will be held at a Fairfax County Public School in McLean (TBD).

Lion Tamers
Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-1:30 p.m.
For children ages 3 to 4 four years old. Camp participants must be toilet-trained and have turned 3-years-old by June 1, 2022.

Each session will have one in-house entertainment event and one to two days of water play per week. Campers will participate in arts and crafts, outdoor play, story time, singing, dancing, small group games and more. Campers always remain on site. The campers-to-staff ratio is one adult to six campers. Maximum enrollment is limited to 24 campers per session.

Camper Forms
Camper forms should be submitted one month prior to the start of camp. This allows time to complete any missing or otherwise incomplete forms prior to camp.

Please Note: All forms must be complete and on hand at camp before your child will be admitted to camp. No exceptions will be made.


Required Forms include:
Camper Information Packet
• A current and completed Certification of Immunization
• A Commonwealth of Virginia School Entrance Physical Examination Form signed by a physician. A copy of the form is acceptable. Any camper under the age of 6 years old must submit a Physical Examination form that is dated after August 3, 2021.

• In accordance with Virginia law, camp staff members are required to witness a document with proof of your child’s age. You must bring one of the following items in when you register your child for camp. Note: Please do not leave the originals.

Acceptable documents include:
1. A certified copy of his or her birth certificate.
2. A U.S. Passport or State Department-issued documentation.
3. A Virginia-based school report card.

How to Register:

Registration begins on Monday, Feb. 7, 2022, for MCC district residents and Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2022, for all others. Spaces fill quickly, so please register as soon as possible to ensure your space.
