MCC This Week!

It's the middle of September and the beginning of a very full season at McLean Community Center. This week alone MCC kicks off a free concert series for children, MPA opens three new art exhibits, and MCP begins its run of an exceptional play in the Alden Theatre. But that's not all... keep reading to learn more!

Free Lunchtime Concerts
Jammin' Juniors kicks off today with Yosi and the Superdads, so pack a lunch and come on down to the McLean Central Park Gazebo, located at Route 123 and Old Dominion Drive. Can't make it today? This is only the first concert in this free lunchtime series for ages 2-5.

Catch a Show This Weekend
McLean Community Players Presents FROST/NIXON
Sept. 17, 18, 25 and Oct. 1, 2 at 8 p.m.
Sept. 19, 25, 26 at 3 p.m.
 
FrostNixonJoin MCP as it presents FROST/NIXON, a play by the British screenwriter and dramatist Peter Morgan. Its subject is the series of televised interviews that former U.S. President Richard Nixon granted David Frost in 1977, which ended with Nixon's admission of guilt regarding his role in the Watergate scandal and subsequent cover-up. James Reston Jr., who was part of David Frost's team at the time, will present a talk at 2:15 p.m. before the matinee performance on Sept. 19.

Audition for MCP! MCP invites you to audition for its January production of The Drowsy Chaperone. Auditions will be held at MCC on Saturday, Sept. 18 (1-4 p.m.), and Monday, Sept. 20 (7-9:30 p.m.). Visit the MCP Web site to download an audition form, review character descriptions, and read audition requirements.

Tribute to Artie Shaw and Buddy Rich

Grab your dancing shoes and come on down! On Sunday, Sept. 19, MCC will be hosting the first of its Sunday Soiree dances: Tribute to Artie Shaw and Buddy Rich. If you don't feel like dancing, just listen to the music of the Wayne Tympanick Trio! Refreshments will be served and a
dmission is $5 at the door.

Calling All Aspiring Teen Actors!
Main Street Theatre Company Auditions
Monday, Sept. 20
7 p.m.

MainStTheatreStudents in grades 9-12 are invited to audition for this year-long program in which they will perform a variety of one-act shows and receive training in all aspects of acting. Rehearsals will be held Mondays, 7-8:30 p.m., from September through May.

Governing Board Meeting and Public Hearing

Man SpeakingResidents of Dranesville Small Tax District One are invited to attend a public hearing on the MCC Governing Board's proposed budget for the Center's 2012 fiscal year. Residents who wish to speak at the public hearing are asked to call the Center to have their names placed on the speakers' list. The public hearing will be followed by the Governing Board's regular monthly meeting.

Join us for an authentic German Oktoberfest dinner! Bring the whole family down to experience the sights, sounds, smells and tastes of this traditional German festival. The meal will be catered by Euro Bistro. Beer, wine and soft drinks will be sold by the Friends of the McLean Community Center. Live music will be provided by Alte Kamaraden. Visit the MCC Web site for the full menu.

Advance ticket sales: $18 adults, $9 children under age 9. Tickets will be sold Wednesday, Sept. 8, through Saturday, Sept. 18, at the Alden Theatre Box Office.

A fun and exciting day for the whole family is right in your backyard! Come to the Center to enjoy arts and crafts, face painting, live entertainment, games and snacks at this indoor/outdoor festival. Kidsinger Jim will get the festivities started and award-winning children's music group Rocknoceros also will perform. Food concessions will be available. 

Admission: For ages 3-8. $5 per person; free for children age 2 or younger. Parents can register their children in advance (Activity No. 4501.210) or pay at the gate.
