McLean Community Center Calendar of Events for March 2015

 

McLean, Va., 02/26/15 — The McLean Community Center is offering the following activities in March. Residents of the Center’s tax district, Small District One-A Dranesville, are eligible for discounts on fees. Unless otherwise indicated, all activities will be held at the Center, which is located at 1234 Ingleside Avenue.

 

Concerts at the Alden

Sunday, Mar. 1, 3 p.m.

Free admission Free chamber music concerts cosponsored by the Music Friends of the Fairfax County Public Library and The Alden.

All concerts are open to the public and begin at 3 p.m. Tickets are not required.

 

Day Trip 2015 Philadelphia Flower Show

Monday, Mar. 2, 6:45 a.m.-8 p.m.

$134/$129 MCC tax district residents

“Lights! Camera! Bloom!” will bring the magic of movies in full, living color to the floor of the Philadelphia Convention Center. This year’s theme for the Philadelphia Flower Show is all about transforming the movies of the silver screen into the world of beautiful floral designs.

Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo

Thursday, Mar. 5, 7:30 p.m.

Graceful dancers, tulle, pointe shoes and—is that chest hair!? Founded by a group of ballet enthusiasts for the purpose of presenting a playful, entertaining view of traditional, classical ballet in parody form and en travesti, Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo first performed in the late-late shows in Off-Off Broadway lofts.

Meet Red (who is nobody’s fool) and the wolf (who tries to be cool). The story is told in classic storybook theatre style (Little Red Riding Hood), melodrama (The Perils of Being Miss RED), Elizabethan (Much Ado about RED), 80’s hip-hop (REDz in the Hood), avant-garde (Call the Moment RED) and musical-comedy style (RED! The Musical!). The show will be performed by MCC tax district youth.

Pre-registration by March 25 is required. Why do kids get to have all the fun during spring break? You may be an adult, but you don’t have to be a grown up! Here’s your chance to play hooky and gain some mad comedy skillz. Groundlings-trained Capitol Step Tracey Stephens will be your (adorable) drill sergeant for an intensive day of comedy training.
