Joy of Dance
Joy of Dance is a progressive dance training program where students advance in a systematic manner. The Joy of Dance staff members hold university degrees, are internationally accredited or are performing professionals. All of our hip-hop classes are taught by Washington’s leading hip-hop dance instructors who have performed nationally and internationally.
Priority Placement for Winter/Spring 2012 will be provided to those students who were enrolled in the Fall 2011 session. Vacancies will be filled with new Winter/Spring registrants. All classes have a dress code; please pick up a dance attire catalog or contact Joy of Dance at info@joyofdance.org.
Optional Performances. To view all optional events, performances, instructor qualifications and other information, please click on to our Website at www.joyofdance.org. Students who perform in optional events will incur a costume/performance fee (approximately $45 per event). Optional performance dates for dance students are McLean Day on May 19, and The Alden's Theatre Class Demonstration on June 5 and 6.
Ballet & Tap (Pre-Primary I)
Little dancers love this enchanting adventure in dance exploration. Children develop rhythm, grace, poise, coordination and musicality through pre-primary classical ballet, beginning tap skills, tap routines and improvisations with magical props and adorable costumes. Our dance class enriches your child in five areas of development: physical, creative, social, cognitive and emotional. Children receive a gift that lasts a lifetime, the joy of dance! Ballet/Tap/Hip-Hop Jazz (Pre-Primary II)
Young dancers are introduced to a beautiful pre-primary classical ballet syllabus which incorporates magical variations and dance class etiquette. Cognitive skills of counting, sequencing, spatial awareness and immersion in a second language (French), are introduced in this class. Ballet & Tap (Combination I)
Our classical ballet syllabus incorporates the methodology of the Royal Academy of Dance and trains children in the execution of ballet skills. Children develop lovely technical ballet skills while learning French vocabulary. This enhances their artistic growth and cultivates poise, grace and musicality. Young dancers learn basic tap footwork and vocabulary using fun Broadway-style song and tap routines showcasing their fantastic stage presence. Ballet/Tap/Hip-Hop Jazz (Combination II)
Students in this program must have previous dance training in the Combination I level or equivalent experience. Students are trained in the Joy of Dance classical ballet syllabus and gain knowledge of tap technique through tap, barre, progressions, combinations and stylized Broadway tap routines. Students love learning our hip-hop and jazz routines. These dancers are members of Joy of Dance Show Biz Kidz. Instructor: Joy of Dance staff.

Students are introduced to the Royal Academy of Dance syllabus through centre work, adagio and allegro variations. Students learn the fundamentals of tap to Broadway-style songs and study fun jazz/hip-hop routines set to the music of Hannah Montana, the Jonas Brothers, etc. These dancers are members of Joy of Dance Show Biz Kidz. Classical ballet training includes ballet barre, stretching/strengthening exercises and adagio and allegro combinations. Tutus for Twos

Cheerleading/Tumbling
Our cheer/tumbling program will introduce children to beginning tumbling skills, cheers, motion technique, chants, drills, stretches, jumps and a high-energy cheer dance. This fun-filled cheerleading class builds flexibility, strength and physical conditioning while promoting team spirit and self esteem. Pre-Teen Intermediate Hip-Hop (OFTC )
Intermediate hip-hop is for students with previous training. Dancers learn aspects of locking, popping and breaking and incorporate them into exciting combinations. It is a fun and highly energetic dance form and a great form of exercise! You will learn the most current and up-to-date styles of this ever-changing dance form from one of Washington’s hottest choreographers. Instructor: Joy of Dance staff.
