McLean Cooks Program
Join chefs Joel Olson and John Bauhs in the kitchen for these classes that teach children the basics of cooking! Give your child the opportunity to learn that cooking can be fun and is a creative way to discover life-long skills.
Junior Chef Series
For ages 8-12. The Junior Chefs series will teach students: how a kitchen operates; proper food handling; food preparation; cooking and baking techniques; how to work as a team and more.
Instructor: Chef John Bauhs
Class One: Covers cooking skills and techniques emphasizing safety, etiquette, hygiene and teamwork. Students make: Cheese Quesadillas with Salsa • Breadsticks • Fruit Salad with Mint • Snickerdoodles.
Class Two: Learn the basics of making great soups and salads. Students make: Chicken Noodle Soup • Italian Tomato Soup • Tossed Salad with Vinaigrette • Berry Crisp with Vanilla Cream.
Class Three: Create entrees and desserts that will make a great cook proud! Students make: Awesome Meatloaf • Chicken with Lemon Sauce • Southern Style Biscuits and Honey Butter • Chocolate Chip Brownies.
Class Four: In this class, the new chefs use all of their knowledge to cook a menu from the available items in the market basket and enjoy their new culinary skills!

Cooking, Manners and Etiquette
For ages 8-12. This popular and effective etiquette class teaches students the rules of the kitchen while they prepare a variety of foods. Afterwards, they enjoy the rewards of their labor while discussing the concepts and rules of manners and etiquette. Next, students make a four-course meal served restaurant style, while the Chef critiques their dining etiquette in a fun and productive manner. Students receive recipes and handouts on the last day of class. Instructor: Chef Joel Olson

Gingerbread House Workshops
For families or other groups. Construct a gingerbread house at this fun-filled family activity! Families work together assembling and decorating their own gingerbread houses. Cooking with Dad
For ages 6 and older. Spend a Sunday afternoon with your dad. Chef Joel Olson will teach you and your dad how to prepare: Crisp Flatbread • Swedish Meatballs • Heavenly Mashed Potatoes • Scandinavian Sugar Cookies. Afterwards, you will dine on the meal you’ll have created!
