Drawing with Various Media

For all skill levels. We will draw a variety of subjects ranging from still lifes to landscapes to the figure using pen and ink, charcoal, conté crayon and assorted papers. This is a class to experiment with media and sharpen your drawing skills.

Drawing & Painting: Portraiture

This course covers in-depth facial anatomy, muscle and bone structure through drawing studies and painting portraits. Creating a likeness with knowledge of anatomy coupled with an awareness of individual asymmetries, posture and gestural expression will be discussed. Drawing media, oil or acrylic paint may be used.

Mixed Media Painting & Collage

For all skill levels. Working from individual drawings, painted images and photographs, students will create a series of paintings and drawings containing mixed media and collaged surfaces. Students will be encouraged to explore their own choices of subject matter in addition to working from still life, photographs and patterned abstract paintings. The fundamentals of expressive drawing, color and composition will be discussed.

Drawing: Six Sessions with the Figure

Drawing from live models each session, students will work primarily with black and white materials. Students learn how to capture the pose with quick gestures to develop a quality of line with contours and to become familiar with proportions by measuring and foreshortening. Short drills lead to long poses and the development of more complete, detailed drawings of the human form.

New! Intro to Artist Materials & Techniques: A Little Bit of Everything

For the aspiring artist who hasn’t decided where to begin, this class will introduce you to a variety of mediums and instruction to get you started. Drawing pencil and charcoal, soft pastels, oil or acrylic paints, watercolors and linoleum printing are some of the materials we will learn about and explore. After completing this class, you will know which discipline you wish to pursue in greater depth. Materials will be provided for use in class.

Watercolor Painting

For all skill levels. Discover the expressive qualities of watercolor! Each class begins with a demonstration of watercolor technique, fusing eastern and western watercolor styles. You’ll practice techniques such as layering, wet into wet, drybrush and color mixing, with a special emphasis on color and composition. Subjects will include landscape, still life and the figure. Be part of an art studio where you are free to experiment, make mistakes and learn to express yourself in color.

Oil Painting Studio

For all skill levels, however prior drawing experience is recommended. You will learn the technical and expressive fundamentals of painting with oils in this class. Explore color theory, composition and thematic development as you work from still life, photographs, art reproductions or abstraction. Repeating and advanced students will progress on an individual basis. Class will be limited to 12 students. Instructor: Raye Leith.
