USPS® Boating Safety Course
For ages 13 and older. Presented by the Northern Virginia Sail and Power Squadron, this eight-week course familiarizes you with the fundamentals of safe boat handling and operation. The course includes navigation and digital charting topics, which are essential to safe boating in the lower Potomac River and the Chesapeake Bay. The course meets Virginia, D.C., Maryland and the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) requirements for certification and satisfies the educational requirements of most all jurisdictions that require boating education before operating a watercraft, including jet skis, and it may qualify the individual for boat insurance premium discounts.

Materials fee: $48 (for student manual, navigation tools, safe boating certificate and filing of examination), please make check payable to NVSBS. Family members who share the manual and materials pay only $10. Fee is due to the instructor on the first day of class.

AARP Driver Safety Program
Advanced registration required. The AARP defensive driving course is open to all drivers who are age 50 and older. This classroom course will help you refine existing skills and develop safe, defensive-driving techniques. You will determine ways to handle adverse driving conditions and hazards, as well as learn the effects of aging and medications on driving skills. Schedule includes lunch break (bring a bag lunch and beverage each day). Instructor: TBA
